Festival season 2026

Diwali, Garba and Navratri rickshaw in Dallas-Fort Worth

For a Diwali party, a Garba or Navratri night, or a corporate Diwali celebration in Dallas-Fort Worth, The Rickshaw Affair rents a decorated 2024 electric rickshaw that parks as the photo centerpiece of the room. Guests climb in, up to 5 at a time, and photograph in it all night. Keeping it for the evening as a photo piece is $1,100 inside a 4-hour window; a single dressed arrival is $750.

It is fully electric, silent and fume-free, so halls and tented Garba floors that would never allow a gas vehicle will sometimes allow this one inside. Navratri 2026 runs 10 / 11 to 10 / 20 / 2026 and Diwali is 11 / 08 / 2026. The rickshaw is not street legal, so it works on the event property, never on a road.

What the rickshaw actually does at a Diwali party

A Diwali party, a Garba night and a corporate Diwali celebration are all lit, decorated, crowded rooms where nothing is going anywhere. There is no aisle to walk down and no procession to lead. What there is, at every single one of them, is a queue of people who want a photograph in their good clothes, and usually nowhere good to take it. That is the job. The rickshaw parks, gets dressed in marigolds and lights, and becomes the spot the room lines up at.

The vehicle is a 2024 Euro Captain electric tuktuk in blue and white, with a convertible canvas top, decorated spoke wheels, glowing round headlights and built-in Bluetooth speakers. It seats up to 5, so a family group fits in 1 frame instead of taking turns. Half of DFW searches for this vehicle as a tuk tuk and half as a rickshaw or an auto rickshaw; it is the same vehicle either way, and there is 1 of it.

The reason it gets indoors when other vehicles do not

It is fully electric. No engine noise, no exhaust, no fumes, no fuel stored anywhere on it. That is the whole argument, and it is the reason a banquet hall, a hotel ballroom or a tented Garba floor will sometimes let this in through a service door when they would refuse a car outright. Bring it up early with the venue rather than late: what they need to hear is electric, silent, no emissions, indoor-safe, arrives on a trailer, and it is on a floor protector if you want one.

The venue always makes the final call, and some will say no. That is a normal answer and it does not waste the booking. Outdoors under a portico, at the entrance to a tent, on a lawn or in a covered drop-off, the same vehicle does the same job with better light at dusk.

The one rule, said plainly

The rickshaw is not street legal in Texas and never runs on a public road. It arrives on a trailer and stays on the event property: the driveway, the motor court, the lawn, the tent, or indoors where the venue agrees. It is not a way to move guests between a temple and a hall, and it is not part of a street procession.

The 4 kinds of Diwali booking we get asked about

They are not the same event and they do not want the same package, so it is worth separating them before you price anything.

  • A home or clubhouse Diwali party. Usually 40 to 150 guests, a driveway or a community clubhouse lot, and an evening that runs 4 to 6 hours. The rickshaw parked and dressed for the whole night is the version that fits, because the photos happen in waves rather than at one cue.
  • A Garba or Raas night. The floor is the event and nobody wants a vehicle on it. The rickshaw belongs at the entrance or the edge of the hall, where people photograph before and between sets. Navratri 2026 runs 10 / 11 to 10 / 20 / 2026, so these dates are fixed and they are the same 9 nights for every organizer in the metroplex.
  • A corporate Diwali celebration. An employer marking the festival in an office atrium, a hotel ballroom or a leased venue, often on a weekday near 11 / 08 / 2026. This is the one where the branding, the badge photo and the internal-comms picture matter more than the decoration, and it is quoted rather than priced off a list.
  • A community mela or festival ground. A vendor or sponsor slot at a public Diwali mela, where the rickshaw is a queue-forming attraction rather than a wedding entrance. Festival grounds and temple campuses are private property, so the not-street-legal constraint is not a problem there.

Decoration for a festival is a real decision, not a checkbox

Decoration is a separate line, never included in the package price. Classic marigold garlands with signage are $150. Premium florals arranged in your colors are $300. If your decorator, your family or the organizer is already dressing the venue, they can dress the rickshaw too at no charge from us, and we will coordinate with them on access and timing before the date.

For Diwali specifically, the marigold garlands are usually the right answer, and they are the cheaper one. Orange and yellow genda against a blue and white body reads as the festival from across a room and photographs well under warm hall lighting. Where families spend the extra is when the party has a set palette, a corporate brand color, or a backdrop the vehicle has to sit inside without fighting.

One thing we do not supply, and will not: diyas, candles, sparklers or any open flame on or inside the vehicle. Battery fairy lights and LED strings are fine and look the same in a photograph. This is not a liability posture, it is a canvas top over an electric drivetrain.

Book the date before the date books itself

There is 1 rickshaw and it does 1 event at a time. Navratri is the tightest window in the year for exactly that reason: 10 / 11 to 10 / 20 / 2026 is 9 consecutive nights that every Garba organizer, temple and family in Dallas-Fort Worth is working from the same calendar for, and the weekend nights inside it go first. Diwali on 11 / 08 / 2026 is a Sunday, which means the parties cluster on the Friday and Saturday either side of it rather than on the day itself.

Practically: 3 to 4 weeks of notice is enough for a normal booking, and the deposit is what holds the date, not the conversation. If the event is inside a venue you do not control, ask them about vehicle access in the same week you ask us about the date, because the venue answer takes longer to get than ours.

Diwali and Garba questions

What can you rent for a Diwali party in Dallas?

The Rickshaw Affair rents a decorated 2024 electric rickshaw as a photo centerpiece for Diwali parties, Garba and Navratri nights, and corporate Diwali celebrations across Dallas-Fort Worth. It parks and stays dressed for guests to photograph in. Entrance only is $750 for a 2-hour venue window, keeping it as a photo piece is $1,100 for 4 hours, and a full 8-hour night is $3,000. Decoration is a paid add-on on top.

When are Navratri and Diwali in 2026?

Shardiya Navratri runs 10 / 11 to 10 / 20 / 2026, and the Diwali main puja is 11 / 08 / 2026. Most Dallas-Fort Worth Diwali parties land on the weekends either side of that date rather than on the day itself, and Garba nights run through the 9 nights of Navratri. Those weekend dates are the ones that get booked first.

Can the rickshaw go inside the hall for a Garba night?

Sometimes, and only the venue can say. It is fully electric, silent, and produces no exhaust or fumes, which is why some halls and ballrooms allow it inside or under a tent where they would refuse a gas vehicle. What it needs is a doorway it fits through, a route that does not cross the dance floor, and the venue in writing. Ask them early. Outdoors at the entrance is the fallback and it still works.

Do you decorate it for Diwali?

Yes, as a paid add-on, never included in the package price. Classic marigold garlands with signage are $150. Premium florals in your event colors are $300. If your own decorator is dressing the venue they can dress the rickshaw at no charge from us. We do not put diyas, candles or any open flame on the vehicle; battery lights and LED strings are fine.

Can guests ride in it at a festival?

They can sit in it, and it can carry up to 5 people at a walking pace on the property where that is safe and the organizer agrees. Every rider signs a waiver first and nobody rides standing. At a crowded mela or a Garba night we usually recommend keeping it parked and using it as a photo spot, because a moving vehicle in a dense crowd is a supervision problem nobody needs on a festival night.

What does a corporate Diwali celebration cost?

Corporate and custom work starts at $5,000 and is quoted rather than priced off the list, because branding, load-in windows, indoor approvals and multi-day setups change the number. The corporate inquiry form is the fastest route to a real figure. Private Diwali parties and Garba nights use the published packages instead.

How far in advance should we book for Navratri or Diwali?

At least 3 to 4 weeks, and sooner for a Friday or Saturday inside Navratri. There is 1 rickshaw and it does 1 event at a time, so the date is held only once the 50% deposit clears. If your venue has to approve vehicle access, start that conversation in the same week, because it takes longer to get an answer from a venue than from us.

Can it take people from the temple to the party?

No. The rickshaw is not street legal in Texas and never operates on a public road. It is delivered by trailer and used on private property only. It cannot carry anyone between 2 addresses, and it cannot be part of a procession that uses a street.
