About

About The Rickshaw Affair

The Rickshaw Affair is a family-run business based in Dallas, Texas. We own 1 vehicle, a 2024 Euro Captain electric tuktuk in blue and white that seats up to 5, and we rent it out for weddings, baraats, mehndis and sangeets, quinceaneras, parties and corporate events across Dallas-Fort Worth.

It is fully electric, so it is silent and produces no exhaust, which is why venues often allow it where they would refuse a horse or a gas vehicle. It is not street legal in Texas, so it is delivered by trailer and used on private property only. We are new, we say so, and we would rather tell you what it cannot do before you book than after.

A family business with 1 vehicle

The Rickshaw Affair is a family-run business based in Dallas, Texas. We own 1 rickshaw and we rent it out for events. That is the whole company. There is no fleet, no franchise and no second crew running somewhere else on the same night, which is why a date is only held once a deposit clears and why we ask for 3 to 4 weeks of notice where we can get it.

We are new and we say so, in the same words, everywhere. New means we are flexible and easy to work with. It also means we tell you exactly what the vehicle can and cannot do before you book rather than after, because a business with 1 vehicle and no history cannot afford a single event that went badly.

What we actually own

A 2024 Euro Captain electric tuktuk, blue and white. It seats up to 5 people in total and is most comfortable with 2 or 3 passengers plus the driver. It is fully electric: silent, with no exhaust and no fumes, which is the single reason venues that would refuse a horse or a gas vehicle will often allow this one into a covered motor court, a tented area, or indoors.

  • Range of 60 to 70 km on a charge, with a 6 to 8 hour charge time, so it is charged the night before every event rather than the morning of.
  • Top speed 28 km/h, roughly 17 miles per hour. Entrances run far below that, at walking pace, which is the point.
  • Built-in Bluetooth speakers, so it carries its own music. Send a playlist ahead or pair a phone on the day.
  • A convertible canvas top, decorated spoke wheels and glowing round headlights.

The constraint that shapes everything

The rickshaw is not street legal in Texas. It never operates on a public road, under any circumstances. It is delivered to your event on a trailer, unloaded on site, and used on private property only: venue driveways, motor courts, parking areas, lawns, courtyards, tented spaces and indoor rooms the venue controls.

That rules out some things people ask for, and we would rather say so on this page than in a phone call after you have planned around it. It cannot carry a quinceanera from the church to the hall. It cannot bring a groom from the hotel to the venue. It cannot lead a procession down a public street. What it can do is everything that happens once you are on the property, which is where nearly every DFW event we are asked about actually happens.

We are not the only rickshaw in DFW

There are other rickshaw and tuktuk operators serving this market and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What we can claim is a 2024 electric vehicle that seats 5 with sound built in, and published prices you can book online in about 2 minutes instead of waiting on a quote.

How we work

Every price is published on this site rather than quoted by inquiry, and the calculator returns the real total for your venue, your date and your window before you talk to anyone. The rental agreement is on screen before you pay. An operator from us drives the vehicle for the whole booked window, so nobody at your event is ever handed the keys or made responsible for it. Rider waivers are signed before the vehicle moves, up to 5 riders, nobody standing.

We arrive 45 minutes before the booked window, walk the entrance route with the venue coordinator, and dress the vehicle if we are supplying the decoration. After the moment, the rickshaw stays parked and available for photos until the window ends, which is usually where most of the pictures come from.

Where we work

We serve the Dallas-Fort Worth area from a base in Dallas: Dallas, Fort Worth, Frisco, Plano, Irving, McKinney, Allen and the surrounding cities including Richardson, Carrollton and Arlington. The first 30 miles of travel are included in every package and anything beyond that is priced into the quote rather than invoiced afterwards. We are a service-area business and we do not publish a street address, because there is no showroom to visit; the vehicle comes to your venue.

Talking to us

The fastest route is the booking page, which prices your event and holds the date in one go. For anything else, including whether a specific venue will work, email hello@therickshawaffair.com and we will answer honestly, including when the answer is that we are not the right fit. We are on Instagram as @therickshawaffair, which is where the photos land first.

Questions about us

Who is The Rickshaw Affair?

A family-run business based in Dallas, Texas that rents 1 rickshaw for events across Dallas-Fort Worth: weddings, baraats, mehndis and sangeets, quinceaneras, birthdays, parties and corporate activations. There is 1 vehicle and it does 1 event at a time.

What kind of rickshaw is it?

A 2024 Euro Captain electric tuktuk in blue and white, seating up to 5, with a convertible canvas top, decorated spoke wheels, glowing round headlights and built-in Bluetooth speakers. It is fully electric, so it is silent and produces no exhaust.

Why can the rickshaw not drive on the road?

It is not street legal in Texas. That is a legal classification, not a mechanical one, and it does not change with permission from a venue or a customer. The vehicle is trailered to every event and operates on private property only, which is where nearly every event we are booked for happens anyway.

How much does it cost to book?

Between $750 and $3,000 depending on how long the vehicle is on site, with corporate and custom work quoted separately. Delivery, setup, an operator and pickup are included in every package, and every number is published on the pricing page rather than quoted by inquiry.
